kicsi_biko1CAPE TOWN Walking through or rather before I entered the Steve Biko exhibition I was rather anxious about what I would find. I thought I knew who Steve Biko was and the role he played as a freedom fighter against the apartheid government in South Africa. I also thought he would be just like all the other freedom fighters of his time. I soon realised however that I actually knew very little about this amazing man who grew up in Eastern Cape.

This ambitious metal sculpture stretches and inhabits the full space of the Duveens, forming a spiky black line that threads through the gallery like a ‘scribble in space’. Cold Corners has been specially created for the Tate Britain Duveens Commission 2009, supported by Sotheby’s.

Corbijn has experimented in wide-ranging areas of modern visual culture. This exhibition features short films and video clips, as well as designs for concert sets, book covers, and record sleeves. Photography, though, has always been his primary means of expression.
